Phase 2: Tarot Reading

Spend five minutes journaling about a current question you have in your life, something you’re turning over or wrestling with. Once you’re back in your breakout room with your partner, pick someone to go first and share a little bit about your inquiry.

Next, have your partner shuffle the deck of cards with your objects on them, keeping them face down so the objects aren’t visible. Tell them when to stop shuffling. Have them pull three cards out one by one, placing the first one farthest to the left in the position of the past, the next is present, the last in the future (as shown in this image).

Using these cards like a tarot deck, you and your partner will collaboratively dialogue for about 10 minutes talking about the objects that were drawn and how they might help you better understand your question. Remember, the point of this is not to get an answer, but to let the objects in your own life which are rich with narrative transform into symbols that can help reflect back something meaningful for you. Each of these objects represents something about you, some part of your identity, your habits, your needs. What do they say together as a whole? And in these particular positions?

Once you’ve finished the first reading, we will prompt you to switch and do the second reading. Each partner gets 15 minutes total to discuss their question and receive their tarot reading.
